Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Preferred Experience: Experience that would equip the applicant with specialized experience to successfully perform the duties as described.  Knowledge of VA regulations and directives, interpretation of directives and oversight of a program.  Must also be able to act as a mentor and assist others in the performance of duties.  Experience in applying a broad range of directives to a program.
As a Medical Support Assistant (C&P), you must meet the following dimensions:  One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade with specialized experience directly related to the position; ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines; skill in communicating with individuals in order to obtain the desired effect, ensuring compliance with established policies, guidelines and regulations;  manage priorities and coordinate work in order to complete duties in an accurate and timely manner.  This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrating an understanding of the impact of incomplete work; and ability to review and monitor data to ensure all reports are complete and accurate.
 Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: The duties and responsibilities of the position requires some mobility between the C&P office and various other clinics/offices, but generally the position is sedentary with some physical exertion, such as frequent walking, bending stooping, stretching, and lifting moderately heavy objects such as medical records.
